A flexible, repeatable video method for recording without disrupting your art-making flow
Go-to camera angles and moments to experiment with as you record
The #1 mistake artists make with cameras and lighting — plus optional upgrades if you want recording to feel even easier
My journey with art videos started with my artist interview video series, Beyond the Gallery, which was nominated for Best Documentary Web Series by the International Academy of Web Television in 2010.
But the magic didn’t come from the polished episodes. It came from the behind-the-scenes “extras” videos that I made on a whim. These are moments where artists shared more about their process, their space, their messy beginnings.
That’s when I realized: Connection doesn’t come from “perfect” videos. It comes from videos that feel human because they really are.
Now, through my Ready to Record method, I help artists use video as a tool to share their work, sell their art, and build a creative legacy — without performing, pushing, or overthinking.
Do I need fancy gear to make this work?
Nope. Your phone and something to prop it up with (or a small tripod) is enough — we’ll keep it simple.
Do I need an iPhone?
Nope. I’ll demo on an iPhone because that’s what I have, but my guidance and tips apply across most smartphones.
Will I have to be on camera?
Not unless you want to. This is about filming your art, not talking on camera.
Will this help me be more consistent with recording video footage of my art?
Yes, that’s the intention — this method is repeatable and designed to fit into your art process with ease and, I dare say, even joy.
Will you cover video editing?
No, this workshop isn’t about editing, organizing video files, or publishing videos online.
But I will absolutely talk about how to record in such a way that you set your future self up to have a much easier time editing.
What if I can’t attend live or need to pause?
That’s totally okay! You’ll get the full replay to work through on your own schedule. We’ll send that out within 48 hours.
Is this workshop beginner-friendly?
Yes! No prior experience required — we’ll start from wherever you are.
Will captions be available?
Yes. Captions will be included in the replay for accessibility.
What if I need extra support afterward?
You can ask questions live, and I’ll share how to reach out post-workshop.
I have limited energy / a chronic illness — will this be too much?
Not at all. This is a gentle, practical workshop you can move through at your own pace.
